According to a UN report, which examined the impact of the meat, dairy, and egg industries on the environment, the animal food industries are a major contributor to global warming and are responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from human activity. A November 2009 report by the Worldwatch Institute, written by two environmental consultants to the World Bank, estimated that the rate of greenhouse gas emissions from the animal food industries is even higher, reaching 51%.
